doublet

A lens composed of two elements, each of a different type of glass, which are either air-spaced in a mount or cemented together. With such a compound lens, it is possible to reduce the effects of chromatic aberration. For that reason, the expression "achromatic doublet" is often used. Compound lenses may consist of more than two elements; one with three components is called a triplet, for example.
